Dr Painless Parker Part 2

“Dr Painless’ Parker, The Rich And Rebellious Dentist Renegade”, (1872 – 1952):

The ‘P.T. Barnum’ of Dentistry”

by Tony Gedge

There is NO other deceased businessman I have learnt so much from, than that of Dr Painless Parker. NO ONE. His marketing for dentists skills were second to none!

I first started researching this 19 century dentist two years ago and finally found a Canadian dentist, Peter M. Pronych. Suddenly Cally ordered two self published books Peter had put together.

They took a month to arrive and I’ve only just finished reading g the second one. Along with the books came two CD’s containing rare footage and video.

My Members have them already.

Painless is not just for the dental profession but for any entrepreneur looking for inspiration, resilience and a guiding hand to success. Dr Parker has had a MASSIVE impact on my life and self confidence just when I needed it most in my eternal quest for never giving in or giving up.

I talk a lot about your REASON FOR BEING that separates you from the commodity beige dentists and connects you to patients searching for people with meaning. Parker took dentistry to the masses and delivered his ‘Dental Sermon’ on the streets of poverty ridden America.

This caused outrage by the ETHICAL DENTIST who felt threatened by Parker and wanted to keep their prices high depriving the public of dental care. This is the very roots of the word ethical, and if you learn to understand its origins, you’ll quickly move past its self limiting success factors.

There is little consistency in the fact that a dentist who wears an advertised suit, shirt, shoes, and hat, patronizes an advertised theatre and dines at an advertised club, goes driving in an advertised make of automobile, reads a newspaper supported by advertising, and listens to radio programs with advertising sponsors, should see evil in advertising, especially when it is employed to educate people to their dental needs.”  – PAINLESS PARKER

Getting up off the floor time and time gain after having his license revoked, being shot at, spat at, he continued taking dentistry to those who could not pay the high prices of the ethicals.

An employer and reformer of alcoholic dentists…a passion for discovery as a sailor in his early years…then racing as a yachtsman in his forties…a keeper and ice racer of pedigree horses…an inventor of the anesthetic hydrocaine…living life on his terms…had a film written after him; Pale Face in 1948 starring Bob Hope…decided to use his dental skills with the knowledge of salesmanship and customer psychology he had gained as a traveling salesman… a proficient public speaker…franchised out 37 dental offices…practiced celebrity dentistry…

Painless Blue Print For Life

  1. learn how to sell
  2. learn how to attract attention to you and your business
  3. learn how to borrow working capital
  4. learn that it isn’t what you know, but whom you know

…Produced his own branded tooth paste, …used a USP as his trading name… incorporated competitive advantages into his business… created experiences for customers…sold synergistic products to increase his income…used guarantees “if it hurts, you don’t pay”…self branded with his signature hat, necklace and gitty goatee beard; like buffalo Bill…mastered lead generation techniques by buying a circus…advertised with airplanes, flyers, celebrity endorsement…

William Bebe, Painless’s manager,

Doc, whatever you do, if you spend any money for a sign for advertising, do not, under any circumstances, make it ordinary. Make it so that whoever sees it will stop, look, and listen. Being nice has its limitations, but there are too many people already working that side of the street.

…FIRST KNOWN BLING DENTISTRY by putting a diamond on the front tooth of a famous boxer…first known animal dentist by treating hypos and lions in front of huge audiences… cleverly put to work huge signage that incorporated his USP, advertised by the power of inundation…understood that words sell through alliteration; repetition of an initial sound.

For example in his own words, “You have to be ornanised, systemetised, capitalized, standardized, and specialized. These are the major principles of business economics.

GAINING ATTENTION – A type rope walker in pink pants stepped out of Parkers 4th floor office and stopped the traffic for thirty minutes with one banner tied to each end of his pole, “I’m going to painless parker. He won’t hurt a bit.” Then on the way back from the opposite building, the other side of the banner read, “I’ve been to Painless Parker. He didn’t hurt a bit.”

“When you stand up in a wagon or appear on a street corner and give a dental sermon, some people will think you are crazy. But they are so curious to find out how crazy you really are that they will stay for the whole show. However, when you separate them from their cash, then who’s crazy? – DR PAINLESS PARKER
